For the exhibition GENIUS LOCI Jean-Joseph ALBERTINI is working on a project of installation: Last Kingdom-Ultimu Regnu. It materializes in the form of a model, plans and other visual cues, this project designed for a given place, the Agricultural High School of Sartène. It is a question of circumscribing, to better reveal it, a “other” living and free space, within an agricultural territory devoted to teaching. Last Kingdom-Ultimu Regnu delimits an area of 25 m2 by a high metal grid that obstructs the body and makes this space unattainable. This grid draws a boundary in the space where humans and animals neighbor and collaborate, cultivate and perpetuate together immemorial gestures. This installation gives us to think in the same movement the act of protecting and isolating. As a result, Last Kingdom-Ultimu Regnu permanently encloses a square of land left to its natural evolution. On its perimeter, words of iron borrow the vernacular language to compose a phrase in loop: “Trà spiritu è spaziu a vita libara salvatica sicreta comu un ultimu regnu / between spirit and space the secret wild free life as a last kingdom” . The implementation of this grid marks the beginning of the process from which its content will not cease to be born, as a definition of nature (natura natura semper). Thus this work will find its full fulfillment only once installed in the place that founds it and makes it active.
